Professors Sarah Finkelstein and Dan Gregory are involved with this research project that has been highlighted in an article in Scientific American.They are co-supervising an undergraduate thesis student who is studying peat formation and permafrost history to understand the of role peat soil related processes in the iron loadings to local streams. Additional work will involve analyses of iron species in peat, porewaters and underlying rock, and the effects of permafrost thaw on the mobility of that iron.
