Internal Scholarships

The list below provides information on various internal scholarships for undergraduate students. Some are awarded based on financial need.

The Geology Undergraduate Explorers Fund

Undergraduate student in the Department of Earth Sciences based on academic merit.

Daniela and Alexander Tintor Undergraduate Scholarship

Student in the geosciences based on academic merit. Financial need will also be considered.

Dr. E. T. Tozer Scholarship in (Triassic) Stratigraphy/Palaeontology

Undergraduate student in the Department of Earth Sciences studying (Triassic) Stratigraphy/Palaeontology, based on academic merit.

James P. Nowlan Explorers Fund Undergraduate Scholarship

Student in the geosciences based on academic merit. Financial need will also be considered.

Alexander MacLean Scholarship

Student who has completed ESS322 or ESS424. Students enrolled in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering are also eligible to receive this award.

Coleman Gold Medal in Geology

Graduating student who has completed one of the Specialist programs offered by the Department of Earth Sciences. The recipient will also receive the Wesley Tate Scholarship.

Daniel Wilson Scholarships in Science

Award rotates on an annual basis between the Department of Earth Sciences (third year student) and Geography (second or third year student) based on academic merit. There are additional awards for third year students in other science departments. 

H. V. Ellsworth Undergraduate Award in Mineralogy

Student in a program offered by the Department of Earth Sciences with demonstrated interest in the general field of mineralogy.

Roger E. Deane Memorial Scholarship in Geology

Student who has completed the departmental geological field camp at Whitefish Falls (normally taken during the summer). Students enrolled in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering are also eligible to receive the award.

Wesley Tate Scholarship in Geology

Graduating student who has completed one of the specialist programs offered by the Department of Earth Sciences. The recipient will also receive the Coleman Gold Medal.

Frederick W. Schumacher Scholarship in Geology

Student in the Specialist program in geology or the geological engineering program of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. The award will alternate on an annual basis between the two faculties.

Don Salt Scholarship

Student in the specialist program in geology, geology and physics, or physics (with a concentration in Geophysics). Apply to the Department of Geology by March 1.

Garnet W. McKee-Lachlan Gilchrist Scholarship

Student enrolled in the Specialist program in Geology and Physics.

Edward Blake Scholarship

Second or third-year student in a Department of Earth Sciences program. An A average is required.

Troilus Experiential Learning Fund

To be awarded to undergraduate students in the Department of Earth Sciences at the Faculty of Arts & Science who attend core geology and geophysics field camps.

University of Toronto Women's Award in Earth Sciences

To be awarded to full-time undergraduate student(s) in the Faculty of Arts & Science completing a major or specialist program in the Department of Earth Sciences. Awarded on the basis of financial need.

Energy Scholarship in Earth Sciences

To be awarded to full-time undergraduate student(s) in the Faculty of Arts & Science completing a major or specialist program in the Department of Earth Sciences. Awarded on the basis of financial need.

David and Louise Brace Undergraduate Award

To be awarded to full-time undergraduate student(s) in the Faculty of Arts & Science completing a major or specialist program in the Department of Earth Sciences. Awarded on the basis of financial need.

Jim Hasse Memorial Award.

To be awarded to full-time, undergraduate student(s) at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Arts & Science on the basis of financial need. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the Department of Earth Sciences.

Professor Fried Schwerdtner Bursary

To be awarded to full-time, undergraduate student(s) at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Arts & Science on the basis of financial need. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the Department of Earth Sciences.

 


Internal Scholarships that Require an Application

 

Information on how to apply for internal scholarships that require an application will be sent by email to all students registered in an Earth Sciences program, and announced in the Department of Earth Sciences e-news FRED.

Nicholas Wemyss Undergraduate Explorers Fund

To be awarded to an undergraduate student on the basis of academic merit. 

Joubin James Scholarship and Prize

To be awarded to a third or fourth-year undergraduate student on the basis of academic merit and contributions through extra-curricular activities. 

Joseph Michael Housam Memorial Leadership Award

To be awarded to one or two third-year undergraduate students in a major/specialist program who has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualitites and based on academic merit. 

Ed Spooner Undergraduate Scholarship in Mineral Deposits — Geology/Exploration

To be awarded to an undergraduate student currently enrolled in the course ESS 423H (Mineral Deposits) on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, work experience, extracurricular involvement, and a statement of future academic and career goals. Applications are due while the course is in progress.

Russell Pysklywec Field Study Opportunity Fund

Awarded to students completing field work as part of their program on the basis of financial need and academic merit.
