My research group uses natural climate archives, such as cave deposits, to reconstruct past temperatures, precipitation, and environmental conditions. This approach helps us understand the patterns and pace of natural climate variability, which enables us to improve model projections of future climate change. A central component of our work is the analysis of uranium-series isotopes that are used to develop precise chronologies, allowing us to pinpoint the timing and rates of past change. Current projects include investigating past hydroclimate variability in the Pacific Northwest and reconstructing paleo permafrost extent in the Canadian Arctic.
