Earth sciences students win awards at summer conferences

Several undergraduate and graduate students from the Department won various awards for their research!BSc student Alex Guillerez and grad student Zhongzheng Yuan standing beside the winning poster.

BSc student Alex Guillerez won the BSc MDD Poster Award during the The Joint Annual Meeting of the Geological Association of Canada, Mineralogical Association of Canada, and Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits (GAC-MAC-SGA) held in Sudbury on May 25 to 27, 2023.

His research, titled "Trace Element Signatures of Magnetite Crytallized from Magmatic Salts, was guided under the supervision of Assistant Professors Neil Bennett and Corliss Sio. PhD student Zhongzheng Yuan joins Alex in the meeting, discussing the results of the research.

Liza Zvereva -  “Canadian Building Materials are a Significant Source of PFAS to the Environment": 1st place, Master's Platform
Sara Vaezafshar - "Pesticide Concentrations in Canadian Low-income Homes": runner up, Doctoral Platform

Undergraduate student Sylvia Wolk presented a poster entitled "Mattresses as Source of SVOCS for Babies and Toddlers" that received lots of attention.
