Earth & Environmental Systems Major

With increasing complexity of environmental problems facing society today, we have developed a much needed systems approach to the study of Earth Sciences, involving interactions and feedbacks between the Earth’s sub-components: the lithosphere, biosphere, chemosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere.

The program is outlined in the Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Calendar 2015-2016 (http://www.artsandscience.utoronto.ca/ofr/calendar/crs_ess.htm) however, if you want to see how the program is set up with course titles attached to course codes, including brief rationales for why we designed the program as such, please refer to the following pdf document Earth and Environmental Systems.

We anticipate a high interest in this specialist and major program, and have designated a specific faculty coordinator (Prof. Sharon Cowling) that you can contact to get further information. She has set aside weekly office hours (Wednesdays between 10 am and 1pm) for students to drop by in person, if they have more detailed questions. Her office is located in the Earth Sciences Centre (ESC) room 4113 . If you are unable to make these times, please contact Prof. Cowling to set up an appointment (cowling@es.utoronto.ca).
