Course Number and Title: ESS492Y1-Y – Undergraduate Thesis Project
Course description: Research emphasising methods used in field and experimental work. Students must obtain the consent of an instructor and register with the undergraduate coordinator and are urged to do so toward the end of their third year. In addition to submitting a thesis, students are required to give an oral presentation of their research results to an open meeting of the department. Not eligible for CR/NCR option.

Sessional dates: September 1 2018, to April 30, 2019
Please note: This position includes the completion of any course work and grading not completed by April 30th, 2019.
Rate of pay: 25% of Sessional Lecturer I – $8,160 ($4,080); Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $8,364 ($4,182); Sessional Lecturer II – $8,568 ($4,284); Sessional Lecturer III $8,772 ($4,386) (including vacation pay)
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in Earth Sciences or a closely related field is required. In exceptional cases a M.Sc. may be accepted. Experience teaching geosciences at the university level will be preferred.
Description of duties: The lecturer will be responsible for supporting students in their writing. This will be done through workshops and feedback on individual assignments, specifically a 4 page summary of the research project.
