JOB POSTING – SESSIONAL LECTURER (Winter Term)
Course Number and Title: ESS481H1 Advanced Topics
Course description: This course is offered on an irregular basis, typically in the winter term. Students are advised to consult the departmental notices with respect to course times and content, but should expect an in-depth study of modern earth science questions, for example mineralogy and material science, advanced petrology, or exploration geochemistry. Course instructors will often, but not always, be recruited from Industry. Prerequisite: appropriate 300-level ESS credits. Prerequisites change from year to year; consult Department for details; Distribution Requirements: Science; Breadth Requirements: The Physical and Mathematical Universes (5)

Sessional dates: January 1 to April 30, 2018
Please note: This position includes the completion of any course work and grading not completed by April 30, 2018.
Rate of pay: Sessional Lecturer I – $7,359.07; Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $7,498.50; Sessional Lecturer II – $7,823.85; Sessional Lecturer III $8,185.35 (including vacation pay)
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Qualifications: PhD or masters with equivalent professional and/or academic experience required. Understanding of general chemical principles and how they relate to environmental chemistry as well as knowledge of basic geochemistry and general geological processes. A basic understanding of organic chemistry is an asset. Relevant academic or professional publications, and previous experience teaching a similar graduate or undergraduate course, are highly desirable.
Description of duties: The lecturer will be responsible for effectively delivering the course with all of the attendant organizational issues of lecture and tutorial preparation and delivery, supervising of teaching assistants, setting, supervision and marking of exams, final course marks, course evaluations and so forth.
