Winter Term 2015 (January-April)
The Department of Earth Sciences seeks 1/2 Course Instructor (teaching of this course to be shared with a faculty member) for the following course:
ESS102H1F –Earth Science
Course description: Introduction to the functioning of the Earth as a chemical and physical system. Topics include formation of the Earth from the solar nebula, radioactive decay and age dating, meteorite impacts, melting and crystallization of rocks, erosion and sedimentation, the carbon cycle and its effects on climate, and the transport and remediation of pollutants in the environment. Exclusion: GLG102H1 Recommended Preparation: Grade 12 Chemistry SCH4U, Physics SPH4U, and Functions MCB4U or equivalent Distribution Requirement Status: This is a Science course Breadth Requirement: The Physical and Mathematical Universes (5)
Estimated course enrolment: 50 (cap for course)
Estimated TA support: 100 hours
Schedule: Lectures/labs Tuesday and Thursday 10-noon; January 5 to April 2, 2015; final exam scheduled during Apr. 8-30, 2015
Sessional dates: January 1, 2015 to April 30, 2015
Please note: This position includes the completion of any course work and grading not completed by Apr. 30, 2015.
Rate of pay: $3,420.50 plus 4% vacation pay
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree, or enrolment in a Ph.D. program in geology or a closely related field is required. In exceptional cases a M.Sc. may be accepted. Experience teaching geosciences at the university level will be preferred.
Description of duties: The lecturer will be responsible for effectively delivering the course with all of the attendant organizational issues of lecture and tutorial preparation and delivery, supervising of teaching assistants, setting, supervision and marking of exams, final course marks, course evaluations and so forth.
